Nazarin (1959) ***

It's quite unique among Luis Bunuel's works - a seemingly pro-religious film about the tribulations of saintly man. The first in his "religious quartet", followed by "Viridiana" (1961), "Simon Of The Desert" (1965) and "La Voie lactée" (1969).
