No Time To Die (2021) ***

Excellent James Bond movie, with a bravura comic performance by Ana de Armas, a more subtle, but equally memorable supporting role by Lashana Lynch, spectacular scenery, great action scenes and a very unusual ending.

Spectre (2015) **

Very disappointing James Bond movie. But the opening sequence, set in Mexico, is impressive. Daniel Craig's weakest 007 film.

The World Is Not Enough (1999) *

Directed by Michael Apted. With Pierce Brosnan, Sophie Marceau and Denise Richards. Apted, the celebrated British documentary filmmaker, makes a complete fool of himself trying to direct the 19th installement of the increasingly tiresome spy saga. Once again, 007 screws and shoots his way out of every situation, alternately romancing a teenage nuclear scientist (Richards) and a mysterious Azerbaijani oil tycoon (Marceau). This desperate pot-pourri of lame jokes, ridiculous chases and boring explosions, makes even the worst Roger Moore Bond flick, "A View To A Kill", look good by comparison. 

Tomorrow Never Dies (1997) **

A crazy media mogul (a cross between Ted Turner and Robert Murdoch) tries to provoke a nuclear war between China and Britain.

GoldenEye (1995) ***

A fine James Bond film with spectacular action sequences. Pierce Brosnan's first, and best, 007 movie. Izabella Scorupco is the smartest Bond girl ever (a computer expert) and one of the most beautiful as well, but it's Famke Janssen who steals the movie as Xenia Onatopp, one of the best Bond villains of all time.

Licence To Kill (1989) ***

An unusually serious James Bond flick with Timothy Dalton seeking revenge. Dark and violent.

The Living Daylights (1987) ***

A View To A Kill (1985) **

A fairly memorable Bond villain (Christopher Walken) and some spectacular stunts fail to redeem this otherwise boring and uneven movie. Roger Moore's last, and worst, 007 film.
