The Things You Kill (2025) ***

An excellent film about a son who wants to kill his father. A coproduction between France, Poland, Canada and Turkey, shot in Turkey, with Turkish actors speaking Turkish. Submitted by Canada for the Oscars. But the film's director is Iranian.

Parmi les montagnes et les ruisseaux (2025) ***

Impressive documentary about two Chinese dissidents in exile in Canada.

Comme le feu (2025) ***

A very interesting film set in a cabin deep in the woods. The film uses a very daring narrative strategy that omits certain key elements of the plot.

Amour apocalypse (2025) ***

Quirky and constantly surprising romantic comedy about a kennel owner who suffers from depression and eco-anxiety. After buying a light therapy box to counter his symptoms, he falls in love with a customer service representative who helps him set up the device over the phone.

Deux femmes en or (2025) ***

Excellent Canadian film about two attractive housewives and their raging libidos. A clever and unapologetic look at female sexuality.

My Old Ass (2024) ****

A wonderful, magnificent film about love, but very different from a typical romantic comedy, although it is that too, but also so much more. A queer film about a young girl falling in love with a boy. A comedy about a 18-year old girl meeting an older version of herself at 39. A Canadian movie about a family that isn't fuck up at all, not even a little bit. A rare gem.

Universal Language (2024) ****

A brilliant satiric film set in Winnipeg. It pays homage to the Iranian cinema while commenting on the linguistic tensions in Canada from an entirely different perspective.

A musical adaptation of Michel Tremblay's famous play. The film is available (to buy or rent) on YouTube here.

Ababouiné (2024) ***

A very peculiar Canadian black comedy about a revolt of Catholic schoolchildren against their religious teachers, set in a poor Montreal neighbourhood in the 1950's. One of the best films by Andre Forcier, an enfant terrible of the French Canadian cinema.
