Color Of Night (1994) **

Seriously deranged film about seriously deranged people. Weird thriller with very steamy sex scenes between Bruce Willis and Jane March.

Nobody's Fool (1994) **

Paul Newman is superb in this pleasant film set in a sleepy little town.

The New Age (1994) **

Judy Davis and James Woods star in this bizarre black comedy, directed by Michael Tolkin.

Mrs Parker And The Vicious Circle (1994) **

Slightly pretentious drama about the famous New York writer. The film's highlights are Robert Benchley's brilliantly satiric "lectures". Jennifer Jason Leigh gives an excellent performance as Dorothy Parker.

The Madness Of King George (1994) **

Tragicomical historical drama starring Nigel Hawthorne as George III.

Federal Hill (1994) **

Intelligent film about two close friends from an Italian neighborhood in Providence, Rhode Island.

Wyatt Earp (1994) **

This epic western, directed by Lawrence Kasdan, isn't half as bad as most critics have claimed. It's a flawed, but very interesting film (especially in the first hour).

What Happened Was (1994) **

A man and a woman talk.

Vanya On 42nd Street (1994) **

An adaptation of Chekhov's "Uncle Vanya".

Theremin: An Electronic Odyssey (1994) **

Incredible true story of Leon Therem, Russian-born inventor of an electronic musical instrument who was kidnapped by the Soviet secret police from his New York appartment.

Romeo Is Bleeding (1994) **

Were it not for excessive pathos, this uneven black comedy might be quite watchable. It's an extremely unpleasant, sickenly violent, but occasionally brilliant film noir.

The River Wild (1994) **

Clearly inspired by "Deliverance" (1972), it's an effective thriller starring Meryl Streep and Kevin Bacon.

Princess Caraboo (1994) **

Simple story of a mysterious girl found in England and believed to be an Asian princess, kidnapped by sailors.

The Pagemaster (1994) *

Boring animated film about a little boy (Macaulay Culkin), who becomes a cartoon character and has many adventures.

North (1994) *

A mean-spirited, terribly unfunny comedy about an 11-year old boy who wants to divorce his parents. A failure in all respects.

Mesmer (1994) *

Slow-moving biography of the famous 18th-century doctor, whose unorthodox cures earned him the scorn of the medical establishment. Alan Rickman's fine performance earned him a best actor nod at the Montreal Film Festival.

Legends Of The Fall (1994) *

Everyone's hugging, kissing and crying in this overblown horse opera set in Montana during World War I.

Junior (1994) *

Arnold Schwarzenegger and Emma Thompson are the parents, but he's the mother and she's the father. Ridiculous concept, unsuccessful film.

It Could Happen To You (1994) *

The chemistry is great between Nicolas Cage and Bridget Fonda, but the film (about a married cop sharing a winning lottery ticket with a waitress) is extremely manipulative.

I Love Trouble (1994) *

Campy action film starring Julia Roberts and Nick Nolte as two ace reporters investigating a mysterious train crash. *

The Hudsucker Proxy (1994) *

Bizarre and boring film starring Tim Robbins, Paul Newman and Jennifer Jason Leigh.

The Flintstones (1994) *

John Goodman is perfectly cast as Fred Flintstone, but the film is very boring.

Dark Side Of Genius (1994) *

Terminally boring thriller about a female art critic befriending a homocidal artist.

The Client (1994) *

Mediocre adaptation of John Grisham's bestselling novel.

Canadian Bacon (1994) *

A misguided and totally unfunny film about a "war" between United States and Canada. Michael Moore's only fictional feature.

The Beans Of Egypt, Maine (1994) *

The life of a white trash family in rural Maine.

Wes Craven's New Nightmare (1994) *

Overrated and disappointing horror movie.

The Swan Princess (1994) *

An unsuccessful musical cartoon with forgettable characters.

Suture (1994) *

Brother of a murder suspect survives a car explosion.

Spanking The Monkey (1994) *

One of the sickest and most disgusting films to hit the movie screens in a long while.

The Santa Clause (1994) *

Mediocre Christmas comedy starring Tim Allen as Santa Claus.

The Rook (1994) *

Terribly boring mess about a private eye investigating a series of murders.

The Paper (1994) *

Mediocre film about journalists.

Nell (1994) *

Jodie Foster performance is superb, but the film (about a wild mountain girl) is only moderately successful.

Murder In The First (1994) *

Kevin Bacon and Christian Slater star in this grim courtroom drama about the inhuman treatment of prisoners in the Alcatraz prison.

Little Odessa (1994) *

Violent, but meditative gangster film.

I.Q (1994) *

Uneven, often a bit too precious comedy about Albert Einstein's niece (Meg Ryan) falling in love with a service station attendant (Tim Robbins). But Walter Matthau is superb as the famed scientist.

Clean, Shaven (1994) *

A disturbing drama about a disturbed man.

Blue Sky (1994) *

Jessica Lange won an Oscar for her performance as a wife of an Army officer (Tommy Lee Jones).

Ace Ventura: Pet Detective (1994) *

Silly, tasteless comedy starring Jim Carrey.

The Ref (1994) *

A dysfunctional family is held hostage by a burglar. The high concept idea is great, but the film could benefit from some sharper dialogues and a more competent director than Ted Demme.
