Slightly pretentious drama about the famous New York writer. The film's highlights are Robert Benchley's brilliantly satiric "lectures". Jennifer Jason Leigh gives an excellent performance as Dorothy Parker.
The Madness Of King George (1994) **
Tragicomical historical drama starring Nigel Hawthorne as George III.
Federal Hill (1994) **
Intelligent film about two close friends from an Italian neighborhood in Providence, Rhode Island.
Wyatt Earp (1994) **
This epic western, directed by Lawrence Kasdan, isn't half as bad as most critics have claimed. It's a flawed, but very interesting film (especially in the first hour).
Theremin: An Electronic Odyssey (1994) **
Incredible true story of Leon Therem, Russian-born inventor of an electronic musical instrument who was kidnapped by the Soviet secret police from his New York appartment.
Romeo Is Bleeding (1994) **
Were it not for excessive pathos, this uneven black comedy might be quite watchable. It's an extremely unpleasant, sickenly violent, but occasionally brilliant film noir.

Everyone's hugging, kissing and crying in this overblown horse opera set in Montana during World War I.
Junior (1994) *
Arnold Schwarzenegger and Emma Thompson are the parents, but he's the mother and she's the father. Ridiculous concept, unsuccessful film.
It Could Happen To You (1994) *
The chemistry is great between Nicolas Cage and Bridget Fonda, but the film (about a married cop sharing a winning lottery ticket with a waitress) is extremely manipulative.

Uneven, often a bit too precious comedy about Albert Einstein's niece (Meg Ryan) falling in love with a service station attendant (Tim Robbins). But Walter Matthau is superb as the famed scientist.

The Ref (1994) *
A dysfunctional family is held hostage by a burglar. The high concept idea is great, but the film could benefit from some sharper dialogues and a more competent director than Ted Demme.
