Plus un poème visuel qu'un vrai film dramatique, Beau travail propose une lente méditation métaphorique sur la nature humaine. On est en Afrique, dans une caserne des soldats de la Légion étrangère. La caméra se promène parmis ces hommes éperdus d'ennui, de soleil et de solitude, stationnés en Djibouti, un petit pays tranquil, situé quelque part entre l'Ethiopie et la Somalie. Claire Denis, une cinéaste française née à Paris, mais élevée en Afrique, a toujours gardé une fascination pour ce continent mystérieux. Les paysages sont très beaux - la mer, le désert, les montagnes - baignés tous d'une lumière omniprésente. Par contre, le regard que la cinéaste jette sur les hommes est beaucoup moins serein.

Legendary German film directed by Leni Riefenstahl. It had the longest production time of a film to date - 14 years (a record broken since only by Orson Welles' "The Other Side Of The Wind"). The filming started in Spain in 1940, continued in the Alps, and then in the Dolomites, as well as in the Babelsberg Studios in Berlin. Afterwards, the Barrandov Studios in Prague were used for more shooting that lasted until 1944. After the war, the footage was confiscated and kept by French authorities for several years, but eventually returned to her. After its final editing, the movie was released in 1954.
