Sawmill workers are mistreated by an evil foreman. One dumb worker (Larry Semon) gets in trouble more often than others. There is lots of physical humor - trees and buckets of paint fall on people, pants catch fire, everybody is soaked, dirted and bruised. When bandits kidnap the boss' daughter, Larry rescues her by climbing a tree and pulling her up with a cord. When the villains want to cut the tree down, they fall into the lake. Plenty of gags in this Chaplin comedy set on a building site.

My Wife's Relations (1922) ***

The beginning is hilarious, with a Polish-speaking judge from Chicago marrying Buster by mistake. Later, the film becomes a comedy about marital troubles - a subject clearly inspired by Keaton's own family problems.

Bizarre, but original comedy set in the White Wilderness.

Tragic melodrama about a Spanish toreador (Rudolph Valentino) cheating on his wife with a heartless vamp (Nita Naldi).

Dr Jack (1922) ***

Excellent, early Harold Loyd comedy about a smart village doctor helping a poor little rich girl escape from the clutches of an incompetent physician.

Robin Hood (1922) **

Impressive sets and costumes, but not enough action in this Douglas Fairbanks' adventure film.

Influential documentary by Robert Flaherty about an Inuit hunter in northern Quebec.

A clown first tries to catch a Mexican jumping bean, then fights a giant and finally multiplies himself to attack his animator and to tie him up.

One of Walt Disney's earliest films, it's a modernized fairy tale about a poor lad who follows his cat's advice and becomes a bullfighter to win the favour of the King and marry his daughter. He only succeeds with the latter.

Les Grenouilles qui demandent un roi (1922) ***

Wladyslaw Starewicz, a pioneer of puppet animation, created dozens of short gems in various European countries. This French film is a moral fable about frogs asking for a new king and choosing a stork, who predictably proceeds to devour his subjects. It's a classic of silent animation.

Felix Saves The Day (1922) ***

Felix's baseball team looses its best player, but the mischievous feline saves the day by provoking a huge rainstorm. Fine silent cartoon, ingeniously mixing live-action and animation.

Disney's first adaptation of the famous story. Slightly less impressive than the second one he made 28 years later, but still very interesting.
