Spirits Of The Dead (1968) ***

Very uneven omnibus feature consisting of three shorts adapted from Edgar Allan Poe's stories. Roger Vadim's episode starring Jane Fonda is extremely disappointing. But Louis Malle's segment starring Alain Delon and Brigitte Bardot is excellent (and very sexy). And Fellini's segment is a cinematic tour de force, one of the highlights of his career. Segments:

"Metzengerstein" (Roger Vadim)  *
"William Wilson" (Louis Malle)  ***
"Toby Dammit" (Federico Fellini)  ****

Zazie dans le metro (1960) ***

French comedy directed by Louis Malle and starring Philippe Noiret. Probably the closest a film ever came to capture a dadaist sense of anarchy and chaos.

Les Amants (1958) ***

Ascenseur pour l'echafaud (1958) ***

Excellent thriller starring Jeanne Moreau.
