Dragon Inn (1992) ***
Superb fantasy adventure film starring Brigitte Lin, Maggie Cheung and Tony Leung Kar-Fai. The best (and sexiest) fight scene has Brigitte and Maggie removing each other clothes.
Bob Roberts (1992) ***
Cinema-verité style pseudo-documentary about a fascistic country singer who becomes a US senator.
Batman Returns (1992) ***
Daniel ("Heathers") Waters' screenplay lacks the author's usual wit, self-mockery, cruel irony and hilarious one-liners, but Tim Burton's direction helps create a fairy-tale universe, where reality is distorted beyond recognition. Michelle Pfeiffer is superb as kinky, whip-cracking Catwoman, but Danny DeVito's performance as Penguin is one-dimensional.

A superior sequel to the 1990 hit. Brigitte Lin plays a gender-changing villainess.

Exciting horror film from Hong Kong, with brain-eating monsters created by a wizard from the corpses of two criminals.
Scent Of A Woman (1992) ***
Al Pacino won an Oscar for his excellent performance as a blind Army colonel who befriends a young college student.
Rock-A-Doodle (1992) ***
A musical cartoon about an Elvis-like rooster. Some good tunes and a few exciting chases.
The Public Eye (1992) ***
Good gangster film about a photographer (Joe Pesci) caught in the middle of a full-scale mob war in the early 1940's.
92 Legendary La Rose Noire (1992) ***
Cantonese humor isn't always easy to understand. This Hong Kong comedy might be a little too rooted in local traditions to translate easily to Western audiences. Still, it's a very interesting film.

Home Alone 2: Lost In New York (1992) ***
A sequel to "Home Alone", set in New York City. This film really owes a lot to the classic Road Runner cartoons directed by Chuck Jones in 1950's.
Enchanted April (1992) ***
Joan Plowright and Miranda Richardson are superb in this unusual comedy about four English ladies spending their Easter holidays in Italy.

A lesbian romance between two young girls in a French provincial town after the war. Sensitively acted, but the ending is unnecessarily tragic.
Un Coeur en hiver (1992) *
Directed by Claude Sautet. With Daniel Auteuil, Emmanuelle Beart and Andre Dussolier. Boring drama about musicians.

Naked Killer (1992) ***
From Hong Kong comes this stylish, superbly directed thriller about a beautiful hitwoman named Kitty (Chingmy Yau), pursued by a psychotic lesbian assasin named Princess (Carrie Ng). Princess wants to kill Kitty, but not before having sex with her. This infuriates Princess' assistant and lover, Baby, who becomes very jealous and upset. Together, they kill Sister Cindy, Princess' and Kitty's mentor. But Kitty has an ally, an impotent cop named Tinam (Simon Yam). The film is equally impressive for its action sequences (perfectly choreographed and edited), great costumes (Kitty's skimpy leather-and-latex outfits, Sister Cindy's Oddjob hats) and sex scenes (somewhat discreet, but very arousing). It's feminism, Hong Kong-style - women are strong, men are impotent. Directed by Clarence Fok.
Black Cat 2 (1992) **
A CIA assassin (Jade Leong) foils a plot to kill Boris Yeltsin. Not nearly as a good as the original.
City Hunter (1992) **
Directed by Wong Jing. With Jackie Chan, Joey Wong and Chingmy Yau. It looks more like a Stephen Chow comedy than a Jackie Chan kung-fu flick. Jackie doesn't fight much, but his female co-stars (particularly Chingmy Yau) are quite feisty.
Diably diably (1992) *
Dorota Kedzierzawska's film debut doesn't yet reveal her talent and sensitivity so evident in her later masterworks like "Wrony" (1995) and "Jestem" (2005). Here, she tells a simple story of young children fascinated by Gypsies, but the allegory is crude and unconvincing.
Autumn Moon (1992) *
Directed by Clara Law, it's a boring film about a Japanese tourist in Hong Kong who befriends a 15-year-old girl. Unfortunately, nothing kinky happens between them.
The Dark Side Of The Heart (1992) *
Bizarre sex comedy from Argentina. Winner of the Grand Prix des Amériques at the Montreal Film Festival.
Midori (1992) *
Directed by Hiroshi Harada. An extremely sleazy Japanese animated feature about a little orphan girl abused and molested by everyone in sight. Length: 48 minutes.

Dr Lamb (1992) **
Directed by Danny Lee and Billy Tang. A shocking film about a serial killer. Its narrative structure became the model for countless other erotic thrillers made in Hong Kong - a suspect is arrested and the cops beat the crap out of him until he confesses, allowing for extended (and very explicit) flashbacks of the crime. This film contains many gruesome and violent sequences, but no sex or nudity. It's based on a true story of a demented taxi driver, Lam Gor Yu, responsible for killing young prostitutes. Box office: 13 million HK.
Police Story III: Supercop (1992) **
Released in the United States in 1996 as "Supercop", it's an uneven Jackie Chan actioner. The first half is very boring, but near the end there is an exciting chase scene involving a train and a helicopter.
The Stolen Children (1992) **
Fine Italian film about a policeman escorting two children on their way to an orphanage.
Tetsuo II: Body Hammer (1992) **
Directed by Shinya Tsukamoto. As usual, the sequel is less impressive than the original.

Brazilian drama about an estranged husband of an actress who decides to kill her.
