Amusing comedy starring Cheech and Chong.

Watership Down (1978) ***

Very intresting animated feature.

Days Of Heaven (1978) ***

Visually gorgeous film with about Prairie farm workers. Nestor Almendros won a well deserved Oscar for cinematography. Ennio Morricone also should have won an Oscar for his absolutely magnificent score.

The Lord Of The Rings (1978) ***

Directed by Ralph Bakshi. J.R.R.Tolkien's fantasy saga is given a short shrift, but the film is remarkable for its mix of rotoscoping and traditional animation.

Who'll Stop The Rain (1978) ***

Michael Moriarty and Nick Nolte star in this complex and tense drama about corruption, heroism and loyalty.

The Wiz (1978) ***

Allegorical tale inspired by Russia's turbulent history. There are memorable images of men going off to war. It's an evocative, very stylish film.

Why Me ? (1978) ***

A patient is told that he has only five minutes to live.

The Small One (1978) ***

A Disney short directed by Don Bluth. The story deals with a young boy trying to sell his donkey. After many unpleasant ecounters, he finally sells it to a certain Joseph, who needs it to carry his pregnant wife, Mary (aren't those names familiar ?). Bluth's approach to his material is too serious, but the quality of animation and the beautifully drawn backgrounds are definite assets. The warm color hues, especially the various shades of orange, would later become tradmarks of Don Bluth's palette.

The film mixes live-action, traditional animation and direct animation (i.e. images scratched directly onto the negative). The subject: unemployment. Directed by Pierre Hebert.

Afterlife (1978) **

Visually impressive, but quite incoherent cartoon about life after death. Directed by Ishu Patel.

To w nim ukazal sie slynny dowcip o pierogach, ktorych nikt nie zamawial, a same przyszly (zamienionych z "ruskich" na "leniwe" dla zmylenia cenzury). Niestety, cenzura nie dala sie zmylic i Kabaret Olgii Lipinskiej za kare zdjeto z anteny na ponad szesc miesięcy. Piosenki:
