Fascinating portrait of the life in China under Mao, as seen through the eyes of the author, a young boy during the Cultural Revolution and an immigrant after the Tiananmen Square massacre. The film is very ambiguous about its politics (it could be seen as both pro- and anti-Communist), reflecting the ideological confusion dominating in China since Mao's death.
