Cruising Bar 2 (2008) **

A sequel to one of the most popular comedies ever made in Canada, again starring Michel Côté (who again plays every one of the four major characters in the film). Quite funny.

Dans une galaxie près de chez vous 2 (2008) **

A science-fiction comedy from Quebec. Basically a parody of "Star Trek", with implicit references to the War on Terror and explicit references to the global warming.

Ce qu'il faut pour vivre (2008) **

Touching drama about an Inuit hunter suffering from tuberculosis.

Le Déserteur (2008) ***

En plein cœur (2008) ***

Tout est parfait (2008) ***

Prom Wars (2008) **

The graduating class from an exclusive all-girls school issue a challenge to the boys of two rival private colleges. They have to compete against each other to be awarded exclusive rights to the girls as prom dates. A very original comedy from Quebec.

Le Piège américain (2008) **

Borderline (2008) ***

The 4th Life (2008) ***

Le Cas Roberge (2008) *

A quirky, but ultimately failed satire about the Montreal show biz scene.

The Descendant (2008) *

Ambitious horror movie about racial intolerance. It has some nice ideas, but it sinks under an excessively preachy ending.

Trisomie 21 - Défi Pérou (2008) *

Documentary film about people with Down Syndrome walking to Macchu Picchu.

Nollywood Babylon (2008) **

Informative, but very conventional documentary about the Nigerian film industry.

La Ligne brisée (2008) *

A boxing drama.

Il était 3 fois 1 doigt (2008) ***

A compilation of three hilarious short films about a single finger. The first, "L'Annulaire (gauche)" tells the story of a young woman who lost a finger when she was a child. The second, "Neuf", tells a story of a man whose finger has just been chopped off. And the third film, "Un Homme de main" explains how the first two stories are related (hint: it involves a mafia hit man who specializes in procuring body parts).

Les Affluents (2008) ***

A trilogy of three short films directed by Guy Édoin: "Le Pont" (2004), "Les Eaux mortes" (2006) and "La Battue" (2008).

"Le Pont" ***
"Les Eaux mortes" **
"La Battue" ***

Also included are Guy Édoin's student films: "Comme une image" and "Placebo".

"Comme une image" ***
"Placebo" ***

Amour, destin et rock 'n' roll (2008) *

Badly acted film about a rock musician falling in love with an aspiring actress. Clichés galore. A poor, poor cousin of "Once".

Imitation (2008) *

Weird and pointless little film about a naive young man helping a mysterious woman to find her husband.

Emotional Arithmetic (2008) *

Great cast (Susan Sarandon, Max von Sydow, Christopher Plummer, Gabriel Byrne) wasted in a tepid melodrama about Holocaust survivors.

Rivière aux castors (2008) **

A "true-life adventure" nature docu-drama about little beavers.

1st Bite (2008) *

Strange film about a Canadian chef who finds himself stranded in Thailand.

Le Grand départ (2008) *

A middle-aged man leaves his wife and children to start a new life with a younger woman.

The Woman Of Ahhs (2008) ***

Truffe (2008) **

Well-directed, often amusing horror comedy about people digging for truffles in Montreal.

Le Banquet (2008) **

Interesting drama about a student's strike.

Un Été sans point ni coup sûr (2008) **

Very nice baseball drama from Quebec. Nostalgic and sweet.

Adam's Wall (2008) *

A "Romeo And Juliet" story between an Orthodox Jew and an Arab girl in Montreal.
