The Butler (2013) *
Great story - 50 years of the civil rights struggles in America as seen through the eyes of a black White House butler who served under seven presidents from Eisenhower to Reagan - betrayed by a badly directed film that squanders its potential. Simplistic and dogmatic, the film almost never allows psychological complexity to meddle its carefully arranged talking points. The only exception is Ronald Reagan (well played by Alan Rickman), who is allowed to be complex and multi-dimensional.
The Hunger Games: Catching Fire (2013) *
The second film in the series. Just as disappointing as the first. Even Jena Malone`s striptease is a disappointment - we only see her bare shoulders. Equally disappointing - its Golden Globe nominated song, "Atlas".
Adore (2013) *
Boring and rather pointless film about two mothers who sleep with each other's adult sons. Rarely has there been a more conventional film with a more unconventional theme - this schizophrenic disconnect is quite jarring.
A Good Day To Die Hard (2013) *
An absolutely atrocious, boring, repetitive, obnoxious and pointless action flic, by far the worst of all "Die Hard" installements.
