The Odyssey (2026) ****

Terrific action movie about a great hero of Greek mythology. Superb in (almost) all respects. Unfairly maligned for its casting choices. But the real flaw is how prudish it is, especially in the disappointing scene with mermaids.

The Devil Wears Prada 2 (2026) ***

Fine sequel to the 2026 hit. Not many surprises, but Meryl Streep is as fabulous as ever, Anne Hathaway is way better than in The Odyssey, Stanley Tucci steals every scene he is in and Emily Blunt lets us discover a completely different side of her character. The second act is a bit weak, but the film sticks the landing.

The Drama (2026) ***

Very complex, very nuanced and quite surprising film about a young couple facing a very unexpected crisis.

People We Meet On Vacation (2026) ***

A romantic comedy about two friends who decide to meet every year for a shared summer vacation, even as their lives take very different paths. A charming riff on "When Harry Met Sally" (1989).

Redemptions (2026) ***

A complex and suspenseful Canadian drama with very interesting characters and unexpected plot twists. It falters a bit near the very end, but the rest is thoroughly impressive.

125 rue des Malaises (2026) ***

An intelligent Canadian comedy about an elderly man making two surprising announcements to his daughter. An entirely improvised film, shot without a script.

Montreal ma belle (2026) ***

A tender film about a May-December (or maybe May-September) lesbian romance.

Euphoria: Season 3 (2026) ***

Season 3 of the hit HBO show picks up five years after the end of season 2, with recovering addict Rue (Zendaya) forced to settle her debts by becoming a drug mule between Mexico and the US.

Taylor Tomlinson: Prodigal Daughter (2026) ***

Excellent stand-up comedy show about sex and religion.

His And Hers (2026) ***

A Netflix mini-series about a string of murders in a small town near Atlanta.

The Madison (2026) ***

Another fine TV series from Taylor Sheridan.

56 Days (2026) ***

Complex TV series about a strange couple involved in a murder investigation.

The Pitt: Season 2 (2026) ***

The entire second season of the celebrated medical drama takes place over a single day on the 4th of July. The 7th episode is particularly memorable.
