Inside Llewyn Davis (2013) **

Uneven film about a struggling musician. Greatest highlight - Golden Globe nominated song, "Please Mr Kennedy".

The Lone Ranger (2013) **

Violent western starring Johnny Depp.

Oz The Great and Powerful (2013) **

Handsome prequel to "The Wizard Of Oz" (1939).

Frances Ha (2013) **

Mumblecore pic in black and white, with Greta Gerwig, but without any nudity.

Saving Mr Banks (2013) **

Moderately amusing comedy about Walt Disney trying to convince P.L.Travers to let him adapt "Mary Poppins" for cinema. Emma Thompson is terrific, but the mix of "excentric Brit" comedy set in Hollywood and heavy melodrama about Travers' childhood in Australia doesn't always work.

The Young And Prodigious T.S. Spivet (2013) **

Uneven English-language film directed by Jean-Pierre Jeunet, about a young boy genius from Montana.

The Place Beyond The Pines (2013) **

The first hour of this film is quite boring, but stick with it because in the seconds half it becomes quite interesting, despite a disappointing conclusion.

August: Osage County (2013) **

A "Fucked-Up Family Movie" to end all Fucked-Up Family Movies. Julia Roberts is terrific, but Meryl Streep starts to descend into a "Joan Crawford in her later years" campiness.

Enough Said (2013) **

By accident, a woman becomes friends with an ex-wife of her new boyfriend.
