Disney action film set inside a computer.

Starstruck (1982) ***

Sad to say, director Gillian Armstrong would never again make such a cheerful and exuberant film as this quirky musical about a vivacious redhead singer and her 14-year-old manager cousin. This is Australian kitch at its best. Songs:

"Starstruck"
"Gimme Love"
"Temper Temper"
"Surfside Tango"

Moonlighting (1982) ***

Very ironic black comedy about Polish workers illegally repairing a flat in London.

A Midsummer Night's Sex Comedy (1982) ***

A pleasant curiosity from Woody Allen, just as good, but very different from his previous, unpleasant curiosity ("Stardust Memories").

Matka Krolow (1982) ***

Wbrew pozorom, nie jest to historyczny dramat o Elzbiecie Rakuszance, ale o niejakiej Lucji Krol.

Franco Zeffirelli's adaptation of Giuseppe Verdi's famous opera, starring Placido Domingo and Teresa Stratas.

Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid (1982) ***

Post-modernist comedy starring Steve Martin as a private eye meeting (among others) Ingrid Bergman, Humphrey Bogart and Jimmy Cagney in cleverly edited scenes that use footages from their classic movies. A one-joke idea, but competently executed.

The Pirate Movie (1982) ***

A wonderfully campy parody of Gilbert & Sullivan's "The Pirates Of Penzance", starring Kristy McNichol and Christopher Atkins. Atrociously bad, but always great fun. Many ridiculous, self-reflexive, brechtian and post-modernist jokes. It won 3 Golden Raspberry Awards (for worst director, worst song and worst score) - all well deserved. Songs:

"Pirates Are We" **
"I'M A Pirate King" *
"Climbing Over Rocky Mountains" **
"My First Love" **
"Major General" **
"Pumpin' And Blowin'" **
