Billy Elliot (2000) **

Directed by Stephen Daldry. With Jamie Bell, Julie Walters and Gary Lewis. Excellent British comedy/drama in the best tradition of Brassed Off and The Full Monty. The film is set in a poor coal-mining town, where striking miners hurl insults at scabs and cops, and where a talented young boy dreams of becoming a great ballet dancer. It sounds corny, perhaps, but unless you’re completely heartless, you’ll love every minute of it.
