What Women Want (2000) **

Directed by Nancy Meyers. With Mel Gibson, Helen Hunt and Marisa Tomei. The world’s greatest mystery is finally revealed in this jazzy little comedy about a hopeless womanizer (Gibson) who becomes endowed with the ability to hear women's thoughts. The film milks this high concept idea for all it’s worth, and nicely succeeds at poking fun at both sexes’s insecurities about one another. Loaded with songs by Cole Porter and Jerome Kern, this romantic comedy has a charmingly retro feel.
