Wonderland (2000) **

Directed by Michael Winterbottom. With Molly Parker, Shirley Henderson, and Gina McKee. A British family drama about three sisters dealing with life’s many problems (such as unreliable boyfriends, difficult pregnancy and a barking dog). At its best, it’s a charming “working-class-Brits” drama with interesting characters and mature dialogue. But at its worst, it’s something of a proletarian soap opera, full of melodramatic hysterics, verbal battles, and bitter recriminations.
