The Patriot (2000) **

Directed by Roland Emmerich. With Mel Gibson, Tom Wilkinson and Chris Cooper. Gibson is back at his favorite pastime - slaughtering Brits - only this time he’s wearing pants and has a cool Cherokee tomahawk. He plays a reluctant American revolutionary, who at first isn’t too thrilled to trade one tyrant in London for thousands of tyrants at home - but after the Anglos kill his son, it’s “hasta la vista, King Georgie”. Nice battle scenes and lots of close-ups of teary-eyed little girls hugging their daddies.
