Victor Victoria (1982) ***

Julie Andrews is terrific in this remake of a classic German comedy from 1933.

Tron (1982) ***

Disney action film set inside a computer.

Starstruck (1982) ***

Sad to say, director Gillian Armstrong would never again make such a cheerful and exuberant film as this quirky musical about a vivacious redhead singer and her 14-year-old manager cousin. This is Australian kitch at its best. Songs:

"Starstruck"
"Gimme Love"
"Temper Temper"
"Surfside Tango"
"Body And Soul"
"I Want To Live In A House"
"My Belief In You"
"Tough"
"It's Not Enough"

The Secret Of NIMH (1982) ***

Excellent, very underrated animated film, probably Don Bluth's greatest work (and also his first feature film).

Moonlighting (1982) ***

Very ironic black comedy about Polish workers illegally repairing a flat in London.

A Midsummer Night's Sex Comedy (1982) ***

A pleasant curiosity from Woody Allen, just as good, but very different from his previous, unpleasant curiosity ("Stardust Memories").

Matka Krolow (1982) ***

Wbrew pozorom, nie jest to historyczny dramat o Elzbiecie Rakuszance, ale o niejakiej Lucji Krol.

La Traviata (1982) ***

Franco Zeffirelli's adaptation of Giuseppe Verdi's famous opera, starring Placido Domingo and Teresa Stratas.

Le Beau mariage (1982) ***

Very ironic, almost bitter comedy about a delusional girl who imagines that she is going to get married and tells that to everybody except to her prospective groom.

Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid (1982) ***

Post-modernist comedy starring Steve Martin as a private eye meeting (among others) Ingrid Bergman, Humphrey Bogart and Jimmy Cagney in cleverly edited scenes that use footages from their classic movies. A one-joke idea, but competently executed.

The Grey Fox (1982) ***

A stagecoach robber from the 1860's becomes a train robber in the 1900's after spending thirty-three years in prison.

Annie (1982) ***

Albert Finney's performance and half a dozen truly memorable songs are the main assets of this adaptation of the Broadway hit. Aileen Quinn (who plays Annie) got a well deserved Golden Raspberry Award. The best musical numbers include:

"It's A Hard-Knock Life" **
"I Think I'M Gonna Like It Here" *
"Little Girls"
"You're Never Fully Dressed Without A Smile" **
"Tomorrow" **
"Easy Street"
"I Don't Need Anything But You" **

Gandhi (1982) ***

Ben Kingsley gives a great performance as the famous Indian mystic and political leader.

Grease 2 (1982) ***

Michelle Pfeiffer made her film debut in this energetic sequel to the 1978 hit. Musical numbers:

"We'll Be Together" **

The Pirate Movie (1982) ***

A wonderfully campy parody of Gilbert & Sullivan's "The Pirates Of Penzance", starring Kristy McNichol and Christopher Atkins. Atrociously bad, but always great fun. Many ridiculous, self-reflexive, brechtian and post-modernist jokes. It won 3 Golden Raspberry Awards (for worst director, worst song and worst score) - all well deserved. Songs:

"Pirates Are We" **
"I'M A Pirate King" *
"Climbing Over Rocky Mountains" **
"My First Love" **
"Major General" **
"Pumpin' And Blowin'" **
"How Can I Live Without Her ?" **
"Ta-ran-ta-ra" **

"Happy Ending" ***

Poltergeist (1982) ***

Scary horror movie about ghosts.
