Half A Sixpence (1967) ***

Adaptated from a H.G.Wells' novel "Kipps", this musical film has many flaws - it's overlong, pretentious and badly acted (Tommy Steele's performance is particularly embarassing). But a few excellent musical numbers (including the memorable title song) save it from being a flop. Songs:
