L'Arrivée d'un train en gare (1896) ****
The first "horror" film allegedly sent Parisian audiences running and screaming at the sight of a huge train coming right at them. Directed by Louis Lumière, his most famous work. The original picture was shot in December 1895 at La Ciotat train station, and released in January 1896. Countless remakes have been made over the years, including at least three by the Frères Lumière themselves. One of them, shot at the Perrache train station, and released in March 1896, is available on YouTube here.
