Yol (1982) **
Man's inhumanity to man is the subject of this powerful, but confusing Turkish/Swiss drama. Its narrative structure is a mess. It severly undercuts the emotional impact of the stories.
The Shaolin Temple (1982) **
Directed by Cheung Kam-Yim. Shot in China, it was Jet Li's first film. A young slave sees his father being beaten to death. In an attempt to save him, he breaks free from his chains and kills a guard. Fleeing, he finds himself at the door of the Shaolin Temple where the monks nurture him back to health. Of course, he has trouble respecting the tough Shaolin code of discipline. There are some nice martial arts sequences in this otherwise routine film.
