Excellent Michael Jackson music video.

The Pressures Of The Text (1983) ****

One of the funniest experimental films ever made, a wonderful satire on intellectual snobbery. The film forces the viewer to reconsider the meaning of the spoken word and the possibilities of verbal manipulations. Co-directed by Peter Rose.

Syntagma (1983) ****

Every Breath You Take (1983) ***

Music video directed by Godley and Creme.

Passionless Moments (1983) **

A series of non-sequitur vignettes. A vaguely Monty Pythonesque film by Jane Campion.

Dimension Of Dialogue (1983) ****

Mickey's Christmas Carol (1983) ****

After a 30-years hiatus, Mickey Mouse returns to the big screen playing Bob Cratchit in this first-rate adaptation of the perennial Charles Dickens' classic. Many obscure Disney characters make appearances in this film (including Willie The Giant from "Fun And Fancy Free" (1947), two fellows from "The Adventures Of Ichobar And Mr Toad" (1949), not to mention Mr Scrooge himself, who first appeared in a 1967 short, "Scrooge McDuck And Money"). The story is familiar, but it's a great achievement in every respect. An Academy Award nominee.

Zwisch (1983) ***

Cat and Mouse (1983) ***

Two aging cartoon stars try to revive their glory days by chasing each other on wheelchairs.

Winnie The Pooh And A Day For Eeyore (1983) ***

The fourth part of the Winnie the Pooh saga is an amiable and unpretentious little film. Eeyore is sad, because he thinks that nobody cares about his birthday.

Oh What A Knight (1983) ***

A brave knight saves a beautiful princess from a fearsome dragon. Driessen's unique style of animation greatly enchances this remarkable film.

Conflict (1983) ***

A border conflict between two different sets of matches ignites into a full scale war, whose flames spread everywhere. Excellent film about the dangers of ethnic hatred. It bears some similarities to Canadian film "Neighbours" (1953).

Come Back To Sorrento (1983) **

A one-joke cartoon about a man playing a mandoline under a balcony.

Bottom's Dream (1983) **

A donkey has a vaguely erotic dream. Nice cartoon inspired by Shakespeare's "A Midsummer Night's Dream". John Canemaker won an ASIFA East Award as best director.

Narcissus (1983) **

Ballet dancers. Directed by Norman McLaren. Winner of the Second Prize (short film) at the Montreal Film Festival.

Early Bird (1983) **

This short cartoon about a radio DJ is part of Aardman's "Conversation Pieces" series. It won a Special Jury Award at the L.A Animation Celebration. Co-directed by Peter Lord and David Sproxton.

Cuckoo (1983) **

An interesting cartoon set in a mental institution.

Augusta Makes Herself Beautiful (1983) *

Needless to say, her efforts are fruitless.

Vice Versa (1983) *

A very unpleasant cartoon about revenge.

Sundae In New York (1983) *

A slightly annoying hommage to the Big Apple, with animated clay figures singing the praises of their beloved city. An Academy Award winner.

Sound Of Sunshine Sound Of Rain (1983) *

Mr Gloom (1983) *

Brief, rather incoherent cartoon, whose main protagonist is attacked by demons, ghosts and pencils.

Happy Hour (1983) *

Two bar patrons fight over a radio. They finally settle for a piece of classical music.
