Mickey's Service Station (1935) *****

The first in an amazingly successful series of Disney cartoons starring Mickey, Donald and Goofy. Those films usually feature the trio working at a specific task (repairing cars, extinguishing fires, moving furniture, hunting, cleaning clocks, building boats, taking holidays, flushing out ghosts and rescuing ships). They approach their tasks in character: Goofy remains optimistic despite his failures, while Donald always blows the fuse and explodes in outbursts of uncontrollable rage at the slightest mishap. In "Mickey's Service Station", the pacing is fast, while the gags are inventive and original. Their task consists of finding the cause of a squaking noise in gangster PegLeg Pete's car. Before they find the culprit (a grasshopper), they rip the car apart and have some difficulties to put it back together again. One of Walt Disney's finest cartoons.
