Le Fantôme de la liberté (1974) ****
The final instalment in Luis Bunuel's "surrealist quartet" of French comedies, preceded by "Un Chien andalou" (1929), "L'Age d'or" (1930) and "Le Charme discret de la bourgeoisie" (1972).
The Godfather.Part II (1974) ****
The great saga about the Mafia continues. This is simultaneously a sequel and a prequel to "The Godfather", alternately telling the story of the younger Vito Corleone (Robert de Niro) and continuing the story of his son, Michael Corleone (Al Pacino).

Hearts And Minds (1974) ***
An anti-war documentary denouncing the American intervention in Vietnam. Less impressive than "Loin du Vietnam" (1967) or "In The Year Of The Pig" (1969), but quite informative.
Home Among Strangers (1974) ***
Excellent Soviet western, set during the Civil War in Russia, superbly directed by Nikita Mikhalkov (his film debut). A curious mix of color and black and white cinematography.
Pousse mais pousse egal (1974) ***
A Mack Sennett-like farce with custard-pie fights and wild chases.
Godzilla Vs Mechagodzilla (1974) ***
A good Japanese monster movie with Godzilla (helped by a furry King Seesar) battling a mechanical copy of itself.
