Jimmy Carr: His Dark Material (2021) ***
This Netflix stand-up comedy show by Jimmy Carr includes probably the most infamous joke of all times. Carr himself has referred to this joke as a "career-ender" and it has been cited by the British government as an example of speech that should be forbidden by law. But while this joke might seem racist and insensitive at a first glance, what it really does is to condemn the hypocrisy and the double standards of people who denounce some genocides but deny others.
Heaven's Gate (2021) *****
Arguably, the greatest VR film of all times, directed by Marco Brambilla ("Demolition Man").
Dave Chappelle: The Closer (2021) ***
Less funny than Chapelle's previous stand-up comedy shows, but a watershed moment in culture wars and an intersectional dumpster fire.
The Underground Railroad (2021) *
Visually stunning, very original, but ultimately incomprehensible and confusing TV miniseries about slavery.
Emily In Paris: Season 2 (2021) ***

Pleasure (2021) **
A disappointingly conventional portrait of the American adult film industry, as seen through the eyes of a naive Swedish newcomer. Except for nudity, the film is so tame and predictable in every respect that it makes even Coleen Moore's gentle 1926 comedy "Ella Cinders" look daring and transgressive by comparison.
Locked Down (2021) **
A "comedy of remarriage" set during the Covid lockdown and a heist movie. The first half is quite good, but it literally goes off the rails at the end.

House Of Gucci (2021) *
Even Lady Gaga's Golden Globe-nominated performance cannot save this boring film directed by Ridley Scott.
Don't Look Up (2021) *
Hollywood's (and nobody else's) idea of a "woke" movie. Atrocious comedy that tries very hard to be completely unfunny, and succeeds splendidly. Meryl Streep gives the worst performance of her career, and yet she still steals the movie from everyone else.
Spencer (2021) *
Dreadful and depressing film about Lady Di. It makes Ingmar Bergman's "Cries And Whispers" look like a light comedy.
