Directed by Diane Keaton. With Meg Ryan, Lisa Kudrow, Diane Keaton and Walther Matthau. Story of three sisters (Ryan, Keaton and Kudrow) dealing with the imminent death of their father (Matthau, and as grumpy as ever). On the one hand, the sentimental story sucks, the dialogue is lame, Keaton is shrill, and Kudrow is downright exasperating. But on the other hand, there is Meg Ryan, with her perky nose, flawless comic timing (too bad there are no jokes to time) and winning personality. If there have ever been a case when a good actress had saved a hopelessly mediocre film, it was probably this one.
Ecrit par Nora et Delia Ephron (“Sleepless In Seattle”, “You’ve Got Mail”), et réalisé par Diane Keaton, Hanging Up ressemble beaucoup à “Hannah And Her Sisters”, sauf que l’humour grincant de Woody Allen est largement absent, remplacé par une bonne dose de sentimentalité mélodramatique. C’est l’histoire de trois soeurs qui se réunissent au chevet de leur père mourant (Walther Matthau, aussi rustre que d’habitude). Malgré ses 70 ans, le père est un coureur de jupons absolument incorrigible. Sa fille ainée (Diane Keaton) est une femme d’affaires sérieuse. La cadette (Lisa Kudrow) est une blonde toqué et excentrique. Et coincée entre elles, se trouve la pauvre (et très sympathique) Meg Ryan, qui réussit encore une fois par sa presence de sauver un film médiocre.
