The answer is no. And besides, Jacqueline Susann's life-long struggle to become rich and famous was probably way more trashy and entertaining than this gentle, modest and TEDIOUS biopic would have us believe. Or maybe the approach is just wrong. Maybe a film shouldn't focus on the author of Valley of the Dolls actually WRITTING her book, as well as trying to publish, edit and promote it.
Les bonheurs et les malheurs dans la vie de Jacqueline Susann, la célebre romancière américaine, connue surtout pour son best-seller salace, “Valley of the Dolls”. Bien que son rôle soit assez bien interpretée par une Bette Midler étonnement restrainte (miracle!), le film souffre peut-être d’un légèr excess d’insipidité... En tout cas, les spectateurs seront bien avisés d’apporter leurs mouchoirs... car ils risquent de trouver les tribulations de notre heroïne beaucoup plus tristes qu’amusantes. En effet, contrairement aux attentes, “Isn’t She Great?” est un mélodrame très traditionel: il réussit à séduire le coeur, mais il laisse le cerveau plutôt indifferent.
