The Scarlet Pumpernickel (1950) *****
Daffy complaints about being typecast to death in comic roles and proposes a script by Daffy Dumas Duck, where he can play a dashing hero. The maiden he saves is simply delighted, but her High Lord father (Porky Pig as Claude Rains) is simply furious and Daffy must fight duels with Sylvester as Basil Rathbone's Grand Duke. Concluded with a hilariously overworked climax (which includes erupting volcanos and skyrocketing kosher food prices), this fabulous cartoon is a splendid homage to the classic Michael Curtiz/Errol Flynn swashbucklers of 1930's.
