Scarlet Street (1945) **

It's a curious picture. The first half is very weak. The second half is almost brilliant, but its cleverly twisted plot would be more appropriate in a black comedy. The ending is quite ridiculous. Weakest of all are the characters - unsympathetic villains and a pathetic "hero".
