The Friendly Ghost (1945) ***

Casper's film debut, far superior to his later efforts. This cartoon, co-written by Otto Messmer, established the familiar formula about a gentle ghost looking for friends, but scaring everybody he meets. Best gag: a mouse hiding in a cat's mouth after seeing Casper. Directed by I.Sparber.
