Neighbors (1952) ****

A powerful parable about hatred and war - a simple dispute over a flower slowly degenerates into a murderous conflict. The film employs an animation technique called "pixilation", whereby techniques normally used to animate drawings are used to animate live actors. It received two Oscar nominations: for short subject (one-reel) and, bizarrely, for documentary short subject. And it won in that second category, even though it's definitely not a documentary.
