L'Arroseur arrosé (1895) ****

A gardener gets wet (François Clerc) and chases the prankster (Benoît Duval) responsible for his predicament. This comedy short by Louis Lumière was the sixth motion picture ever shown to a paying audience, at Le Salon Indien du Grand Café in Paris on December 28, 1895, where the Lumière brothers hosted the very first public screening of their works. It was definitely the best and the most memorable of all ten films on the program.
