Wot A Night (1931) *****

A masterpiece of surrealist animation starring the original Tom and Jerry (a human duo) as two taxi drivers, who venture inside a mysterious castle, full of skeletons and ghosts. Amazing ideas include a "nude" skeleton taking a bath and disappearing down the drain, a cloud playing the castle like a pipe-organ and characters materializing from black dots on the ground. Tom and Jerry's film debut and certainly the finest cartoon from the Van Beuren studio.
