Seven Brides For Seven Brothers (1954) ****

One of the best MGM musicals and a perfect example of the "folk" tradition in the musical genre. The story is inspired by the Rape of the Sabine Women, but the action takes place in the American Far West. Music and choreography are uniformely superb - the "Challenge Dance" during the barn-raising sequence ranks among the finest musical numbers in Hollywood history. Songs and dances:
