It's a familiar story about a rising star marrying a once-popular screen legend whose career is crumbling. First filmed in 1932 as "What Price Hollywood ?" and again in 1937 as "A Star Is Born" with Janet Gaynor and Frederic March. Barbra Streisand and Kris Kristofferson remade it again in 1976 under the same title. This version, starring Judy Garland and James Mason, is definitely the best, although the second half is much weaker than the first. "Born In The Trunk" number includes many other songs ("I'll Get By", "Peanut Vendor", "My Melancholy Baby" and "Swanee"). Musical numbers:
"Gotta Have Me Go With You" **
"The Man That Got Away" ***
"Born In The Trunk" ***
"Here's What I'M Here For" **
"It's A New World" *
"Somewhere At Last (Somewhere There's A Someone)" **
"Lose That Long Face" *
