The Merry Widow (1934) ****

Ernst Lubitsch's adaptation of Franz Lehar's famous operetta is a thoroughly enjoyable, witty musical farce. It stars Maurice Chevalier as a womanizing officer and Jeanette McDonald as a young widow. Lorenz Hart wrote new lyrics for Lehar's music. Songs and dance numbers:
