Tales Of Manhattan (1942) **
A series of vignettes revolving around an expensive coat. The Charles Boyer/Rita Hayworth adultery tale is trite and gimmicky. The Ginger Rogers/Henry Fonda sequence about a cheating husband is amusing, but predictable. The Charles Laughton musical opus is pathetic, though also very touching. Best of all is Edward G.Robinson's tale about human dignity. The last segment, starring Paul Robeson, is downright embarassing.
