Across The Pacific (1942) *

A very ineffective spy drama set in the last months of 1941, as the Japanese are preparing to sabotage the Panama canal. Much of the same cast as "The Maltese Falcon", badly wasted. It’s the mediocre films like this (often made shortly after great masterworks) that have made John Huston such a difficult case for auteurist film critics to evaluate.
