Knock Knock (1940) ****
Woody made his film debut in this Andy Panda cartoon, playing an obnoxious woodpecker, whose incessant knocking drives Andy's father crazy. Woody's famous laugh and his antagonistic personality immediately made him a star. His creation must be credited to writer Ben Hardaway, who also contributed to the development of Bugs Bunny (in the late 30's, Hardaway co-directed "Porky's Hare Hunt" and "Hare-um Scare-um" at Warner Bros., the first two cartoons starring Bugs Bunny in his formative years).
