Excellent adaptation of a short story by Alexander Pushkin, set in tsarist Russia, but produced in Nazi Germany and directed by an illegitimate son of Austrian painter Gustav Klimt. It won the Mussolini Cup for Best Picture at the Venice Film Festival.
